Are Your Kids Victims of Hazing?

We’ve all heard about cases of college hazing activities that end with tragic consequences. Despite the fact that most states and individual schools have anti-hazing policies in place, these activities continue to go on, with only the worst cases coming to the attention of parents, administrators and authorities.

What many parents may not be aware of is that while it may be much more common at the college level, a growing number of hazing incidents are being reported at the high school level and even younger, where some kids and teens are being subjected to emotional and physical abuse. Recent cases like the Bingham High School Drill Team in Utah, or the Robertson High School Football team in New Mexico, which involved instances of humiliation, physical violence, and even sexual abuse, have been making headlines. Child Passenger Seat Safety: Step-by-Step

Though many parents try to do the right thing for their kids when purchasing a child safety seat, many don’t buy the right size seat or install the seat properly.  This puts the child in the same danger as having no seat at all.  Therefore, it’s a good idea to purchase the seat from a store that will allow you to take the seat to your car and have it installed.  This ensures that the seat is safe and is right for your child. Is It Safe For Me To Start A Neighborhood Watch In My Community?

Lisa M.: I have been interested in starting a neighborhood watch. There are many around here, but they all stop before reaching our street. I’ve shared this idea with quite a few people, but they get very upset with me. They think that because I’m a single mom,  if I had neighborhood watch meetings in my apartment, some bad people might come to it and could hurt or steal from me.

JW: Neighborhood Watch groups are one of the most effective ways of fighting crime in your community, but I know that some people can be a little nervous about having meetings in their own homes. However, there are many different places that you can meet if you don’t want to use your home.  Think about contacting a community center, a school, a library, or maybe one of your neighbors who might want to volunteer their home.
