John Walsh and Rep. Nick Lampson (D-TX)
By John Walsh
When members of Congress set aside partisanship and came together to pass the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act last year, they stood up for the safety of our kids. One of the big things that helped them overcome their political differences was the pressure that you put on them. By the thousands, you let your representatives in Washington know how important it is to you that we have a solid, national sex offender registry in place, one that can be enforced so that law enforcement—and all of us—can keep track of the creeps who might prey on children.
I’ve talked before about the wonderful, bittersweet day last July that President Bush signed the Adam Walsh Act into law in the Rose Garden at the White House. It was the 25th anniversary of my son’s abduction and murder, and I knew the law we’d all fought so hard to get passed was going to help make sure other families wouldn’t have to live through what mine has. But the battle is far from over. And once again, I’m asking you to let your representatives know how you feel.
Although the Adam Walsh Act was passed and signed into law, Congress has yet to approve the funding to implement it. I know that when it comes to the budget, there are always tough decisions to make. But as long as there are predators out there targeting innocent children and destroying lives, this decision ought to be an easy one. Without the full funding that the Senate Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations Committee recommends, the Adam Walsh Act is just a good idea.
There are people on Capitol Hill fighting the good fight for us, and I believe that anyone who steps up to the plate when it comes to protecting our children ought to be recognized. So it’s my pleasure to offer my thanks and praise to Senator Barbara Mikulski and Senator Richard Shelby. They’re working hard to add this critical funding to the federal budget. Senators Mikulski and Shelby were the first lawmakers to stand with me and call on Congress to provide the money that will make the difference in protecting kids from the predators who slip through the cracks. Under the law named for my son, sex offenders who fail to register are committing a federal crime. With the leadership of Senators Mikulski and Shelby in the Senate and Representatives Alan Mollohan and Rodney Frelinghuysen in the House, the U.S. Marshals Service will have the funding it needs to hunt down the lowlifes who think they can beat the system, making sure that they face justice—and are kept away from our children.
Please join me in calling on Congress to come together again to approve the appropriations bill that lets the Adam Walsh Act do what it’s intended to do. You made your voices heard in Washington and helped get this important law passed, and I can’t thank you enough. Now, let’s make sure Congress knows we’re still watching. Let your representatives know that nothing is more important than the safety of our children, and ask them to support full funding for the Adam Walsh Act.

Our daughter was molested by my birth father, Who I did not know very well he came into our life I had a newborn a 15 month old and a 2 1/2 year old, plus our oldest daughter she was 6 at that time. We thought he was doing us a favor by picking her up everyday bringing her to school, He was doing him self a favor at her expense. He since then died But we need to keep these lowlifes off the streets so the rest of our children do not get hurt,.She is a healthy happy 21 year old with her own little boy.

We very much agree with this campaign. Our daughter -age 3 was molested in a sick way by the least person we expected., my cousin-age 15 or16, therefore my daughter’s uncle. It was mothers day and we celebrated it with the family in there house and we noticed that our daughter was not in sight, she was with him in a room playing with toys. We checked on her and they seem to be having fun playing with toys. After the celebration we went home and thankfully my daughter told me very casually what her day was like-We were shocked and had to rush her to the ER since she was crying using the bathroom. The doctor confirmed it. We have court hearing going on. Therefore we really believe that there should be a solid law for this cases and to stop looking at the reasons why the act was done. The law should be equal all across the board whether or not they have a clean record or not and whether they are juvenille or adult. There will always be a first time and we believe that the first time should be the last.

Oh come on now. Since Patty Wetterling has questioned the veracity of the Adam Walsh act and called these laws of questionable constitutionality unworkable she has turned from cause celebre to the latest pariah.
Everyone wants to hear what Human Rights Watch has to hear until they quote reputable sources for their study, then all of a sudden everyone turns deaf.
Puhleeeze…….

It is interesting that the people against the registries haven’t taken the time to understand who is on them. Do you even care to ask? Where are the actual numbers and facts? Has anybody looked? Did HRW look at all the state registries during the 2 Year study? If so, where are the results? Who are the 100 or so offenders they interviewed? What were they convicted of? Are they a fair sampling and representative of the whole? I don’t know who to believe here. I am a huge supporter of HRW but this fight blew me away. An argument with no real info about the very thing that is attacked. I would like to know the actual numbers and the offenses of the people on the registries so that I can make up my own mind.
Gloria A
Did you see Patty Wetterling’s site? She posts the MN Predatory Registry under resources. Oh well. So much for the honest mom. Way to go!
Jess
Wow! You guys that are against the registries make me sick. You argue about your measley tax dollars. They are OK to pay for casinos and other entertainment. But not for the lives of innocent children. I’m sorry but you cannot put a price on the innocense of a child. By sexually molesting a child, family or not you are taking away the purity from them. Causing them maybe to do that to their chilren in the future. Fact is the registry does help. In many cases when a child has been found missing they look to see who is registered around that area. Such as when Jessica Lunsford went missing. Also, even if it is a family member if taken to court he will always have to register and if deciding to marry in the future a mother will know the consequences of protecting her child with a man that has a previuos record. I’m sorry personally i don’t care if reporting to the registry list breaks family. To me by molesting a child that’s the least you deserve even if it was your first time. That’s exactly why we should punish these sickos by having to register, that way there is more publicity and they know the consequences before they even molest anyone.

Glad to do anything at all, to help.

Get the REAL facts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The truth is that child sex offenders need to be premanently locked up, and until they are, we need this registry. I know a person who is locked up for molesting four children, and despite the fact that he is getting treatment, he has shared with a couple of people that he plans to re-offend when he is released in just a few years. I certainly want the Moms that he lives near to know where he is. He plans to prey on people OTHER than family members.
I have looked at the registry for our area. It tells me who has molested children under the age of 14. I don’t worry about the others because I know they were probably arrested for consensual sex acts with older teenagers.
We need to start caring more about the well-being of our children in this country! No system is going to be perfect, and quite frankly, if you don’t want to be on it, don’t have sex with ANY minor if you are a legal adult, and don’t expose yourself in public–find a bathroom!
Margaret De Vido
Personally,I think that Congress should “do something worthwhile”..And do something about these sex offenders..ONE STRIKE,AND YOU’RE OUT!!!! (Catch their sorry arses, and put ‘ em IN PRISON..FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES)..There are beenfits to this registry, but,you know darned well, that a great deal of these perpetrators, will not keep their info up to date…Heck, they can give any address, and unless their PO comes to their residence, The perp, yet again, gets the “OK”,(If you will,to plan their next attack,on their very unwilling victim)…SOMETHING has to work,to keep any more kids from being victimized,as I was,for many years…After all,WHAT WOULD CONGRESS DO–IF IT WAS THEIR CHILD???? Let’s see Justice served, people!!!
Gloria A
You people who don’t want the registries haven’t stated a single fact about the people ON the registries. Are registries ONLY made up of people wrongly accused or convicted of such non-violent low level crimes that they really don’t belong on them? Where are THOSE numbers? Rather than spout your rhetoric showing your disdain for people who just want to maintain their “right to know” of people who pose a threat so that they can protect themselves and their families from who IS known. The unknown offender/threat will always be there trying to exploit others. That’s what they do. Why don’t you put forward the FACTS and understand them before you make such ill-conceived comments.
Gloria A
Survivor. You have the advantage of knowing the facts of the case and making your own decision as to whether your husband was safe to be with. Everyone deserves that option. We who DO NOT break the law should not be penalized for someone else’s transgressions. If they are REALLY innocent, post MORE not less. Registries are NEVER going away. If you think they are useless in their current form then make them useful by suggesting changes. By saying you want them abolished is you discredit yourself by appearing to be a fanatic like some of the other folks commenting here. They are probably convicted sex offenders who do NOT want their case details out for everyone to see because they are sickos who belong on the registries and the public deserves to know who they are. Suggesting solutions would be a good thing.

I would like to participate in getting the right thing done to protect America’s children 100%. Is there a letter that I can copy and paste to send to my reps? What do I say? Will my voice really be heard?

Thank you amw for all you do.

The Adam Walsh Act is a great thing. I also would like to see families of missing children and adults not have to wait a certain time period before anything is done by law enforcement.

I think the Adam Walsh Act is a great thing. I would also like to see families of missing children and adults not have to wait a certain period of time before law enforcement begins to investigate.

Discrimination allows superiority where truth is hidden and corruption tends to creep in.
This is the human equation.
People change day to day. Things change, steal rusts while conceited blows away, but the energy that makes us who we are moves through us as we experience our lives.
Governments, Advocates, Churches, and Media put pressure on sex offenders who are struggling daily to make a way for their families.
These groups are one in the same who have created the realm of secrecy and oppress for gain.
To be ashamed of being a flawed human who makes mistakes, is the responsibility of the person/group/s allowing laws of decimation which is abuse.
Inflicting pain on any person who has been betrayed by that societies recklessness to hide the truth because of its own shame is the ultimate in irresponsibility.
By continuing to advocate lifetime sentences, separation, eradication, concerning sexual offenses is recognition of the breakdown of group/s and any system/s which supports this human rights abuse .
There can be no justice where the responsible party is the society which refuses acceptance of its error.
Thinking that labeling anyone concerning life and death decisions with regard to sexual offenses has no validity.
The stigma/demonization/and continuance of the myth is perpetrated by the group/s and any system/s that makes people suffer for a belief that has only for centuries hidden its own truth.
Please take time to write those who can change our laws.
What ever we do we do to ourselves as money and power leads us by the ring in our nose rendering us unable to hear or see beyond the sound of our own greed.
Mr. & Mrs. Radford Jr.

I hope you all succeed in your mission. Good luck. I support all families affected by these creeps. My heart goes out to all of you.

Jenny from the block/Brooklyn:
What you propose to do to a sex offender is just as illegal as the sex offense against my child. I do not appreciate people who advocate violence for violence; especially when you can not even imagine what it is like to be the mother of a victim. I want my child to be a better person in the end by learning forgiveness, not hatred that will destroy her life. I want her to be a survivor, not a lifetime victim.

AS PARENTS NOT ONLY DO WE SUPPORT THAT THERE SHOULD BE FULL FUNDING FOR THE ADAM WALSH ACT CAMPAIGN. WE FEEL THAT EVERY AMERICAN SHOULD SUPPORT THIS CAMPAIGN! WE ALL HAVE LOVED ONES.AND WE ALL SHOULD DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO PROTECT OUR CHILDERN! THEY OUR ARE THE FUTURE OF TIS COUNTRY!
Brandy Middling
I have a daughter that was sexually abused by the “man” in my life at the time and I taught my children anything I could about being safe, good touches & bad touches and that they could always tell me anything, but unfortunatly that wasn’t enough because my daughter didn’t feel that she could tell me for 4 years after this happened, after the “man” was already in prison for having sexual relations with another young girl, this was because he told her that if she ever told anyone about what he did to her,he would come back and kill me,her own mother!! We finally got justice,if that’s what you want to call it,when he stood in front of us in open court and admitted to everything he did…proudly!!!
This person only recieved, for his second offense,2-5 years…So where is the justice for my daughter??? My daughter has learned that in order to get past this, she had to first learn to forgive it. She has told me that she has forgiven him but she will NEVER FORGET!!! I feel that it is very important to forgive but equally important to not forget it because she has learned 2 valuable lessons from all of this, she has learned that in order to get past the bad things in life we must forgive and in order to lead a safe life in the future we should never forget!!
Tim
You are correct and glad to see that a person on here looked up who is the main sex offenders. Its starts at home look up the report on Child Maltreatment by the Dept of HSS.
This is another reason as so many have said the AWA will not work why because so many will not put their husban or wife in jail or on a register for life. They all need to get help and ask forgiveness from the most powerful register of all.
sherryvenable
tose lowlifes ned to rott behind bars they should not even be let out after first offence and they all should be castrated if they are let out
Ann Nonymous
You can absolutely not re-educate chilid molesters. They are incorrigible.
Most are, in fact, family members. Most get away w. their crimes. My ex-husbnd molested my daughters; the eldest did not come forward until she was 10. I tried to get her to talk to the police but she would not. She was intimidated by then. So he runs free. And I am eaten up w. anger about it even 10 years later.
Ann Nonymous
A correction here. I was told about the abuse 20 years ago, not 10,
Mrs.C.Reed
Dear congress,
In my life i thought that this can’t be true! Thee monsters are out here harming thee children. I wouldn’t have believe this could happen,”until it had happen to several of my friends children”.They are women from difference life styles. As of this day it’s still hard to believe that this is going on. We live in the world that we allow thee monsters more rights then my children!
CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE!!!
Mrs.C.REED
Thee people women and men it doesn’t make a difference what sex thee molester are most of them don’t wants to change and some can’t change .
So it’s up to you our protect to protect our little ones, our rights as unitedstates citizens.
Mrs. Jenkins
Well I would agree that the worst should be stopped and put where they need to be. Having said that it is not people that have families, and children that had a crime long ago. Now they are OK and like John Walsh said he make a lot of mistakes in-his life but will not tell what they are? So all I am saying is that I agree for the worst, but STOP RUINING these children’s lives and families, that have done noting in the last 10 years oh so but work hard to have a better life and a God Loving family. Congress needs to abide the Universal Declaration as they sworn to do and honor our constitution of these United States of America and up hold that OATH!!!
Maria
If your child was molested or hurt in anyway you would not think this people have rights. The innocent kids are the ones that we should be looking out for not the rights of those predators. Any law to protect the safety of our kids will always help. Once a molester always a molester. As far as I know this people if you can call them people or humans more like animals worst than animals don’t have rights.
Lee Allan
Dear Susan,
You say your husband was arrested for a lewd act. What was the lewd act? Was it going to the bathroom on the side of the road or was it doing something that deserves to stick with him? As for your daughter, no one has the right to take out on her for the sins of her father. Other people should stand and say this will not be tolerated.
As with the AWA. I agree that it does need to be amended. But it does protect kids. That is the spirit of the law and is what we need to look at. We need to protect our children from those who attack them.
Teenagers that have consensual sex should not be on this list. I agree 100% of that. If someone molests a child, they deserve to be in prison for life. If they rape a child, they deserve death.
John Walsh is not to blame for the faults of these laws. It is congress who should have written it properly. It is our government who needs to practice the spirit of the law. It is us as parents that need to protect our children from these monsters at ALL costs.
But I am sick of this liberal b.s. looking to protect child predators. People like you are why little girls are still being raped on tape. People like you are why it is not safe for children. When these monsters hurt a child, they forfeit their rights for life.
Thank you for caring about our children, John Walsh.
step-
to whom it may concern:
I am a United States Citizen have children that I care so much for.I have seen where the AMW law has worked in finding missing children.John Walsh has made it his life to protect our children when these monsters has tortured them.Who are the ones that has to kiss them and tell them everything is going to be alright? If you have kids and grandkids please think about them because these sexual preditors don’t.They dont care about anything but their own gratification. It’s sick and we need to protect them. The registry has made us aware of whom to look out for.. there are bad people everywhere I havent bothered any sex offender on the list but we need to know where they are.Our children are our future if they are molested and torchered what are our future and it happens more than the media and everyone in this country could even know or be aware of.They say privacy well how about our future.. are they going to be our future? As is the so called teen thing. well I think it should be up to the courts on that.,if it was real rape.. I think that they should be there, a child 14 or under is rape to me no matter what..People should think before they hurt people.expecially a innocent child that dont know anything but peterpan,or Barbie. It’s sad please please I beg that you keep the registry. It’s good and whatever loopholes can be worked out.. but our kids need us to protect them.
sincerly,
stephanie

I am sickened by the fact that some of you are against the registry. It has been proven time after time that PEDOPHILES CAN NOT be rehabilitated! I don’t know why you don’t feel the need to PROTECT our children. They are precious human beings and deserve the right to feel like they are protected and safe. If children don’t feel like their well being and protection are important, than they won’t be able to tell us if there is anything wrong or if they have been a victim as well.
Here’s a fact about pedophiles from a doctor of psychology : For every 1 victim that comes forward, there are 7 that are silent. So, let’s think about that. In the case of the 3-yr old girl that was brutally raped on tape, there have probably been over 8 victims of this Chester Arthur Stiles guy. How would you feel if your child was victimized by one of these predators and , because YOU did not write to Congress to fund it, the predator spent some insignificant time in jail and did not register. How would you feel if he was out running free, near where your child was?
If someone in your family is one of these monsters, than why would you NOT want to protect the children in your family? The family would be affected for some time, but eventually would grow and move on from it, knowing that it is better that the person is registered. Why are there so many people against the registry? Why doesn’t Congress want to fund it? How many countless numbers of children’s and their family’s lives have been tragically ruined by these PEDOPHILES? Why are so many people worried about other things that are so minuscule compared to this?
And to the woman that wrote about child obesity being more important than the registry obviously needs to get a reality check. If obesity was the ONLY THING this country had to worry about, than this would be UTOPIA!!!
Thank you John Walsh for protecting our children. I have undying support and respect for you. I am sorry about the loss of your child, but you have proven that through your love and devotion to him, you have helped countless others. I am glad you are in this world because sometimes it feels like no one is on the side of the innocent.
D.K
@ Charrisa Martin.
Where did you get this information from? And how does that statistic apply to a 19 yr old who had sex with his 17 or 16 yr old girlfriend? Or to someone who downloaded a picture from the internet?
Joyce Bownds
Please fund this for all the children that are alive today. The children lost should be enough to see the need for funding
Kathleen
I support the Adam Walsh Act. I think that strenghtening the registry is a good thing. I cannot believe there are actually people that do not want to strenghten laws to protect children. I support anything that will protect our world from sexual predators.
Margarette
All parents want to protect their children, and grandparents, aunts and uncles. But how do we really do that? We must educate ourselves on what is a real threat to our children, in our society, in our community. How do we educate ourselves and how do we know we are hearing the truth? Can we depend on our local television news broadcast? Surely they will report if a stranger abducts a child at a school bus stop. They do not report that Uncle Billy touched his neice, or daddy or grandpa. They do not report that mommy hurt her little boy and left bruises. What we do not hear on the news we do not know. Remember even a lie told often enough, is believed. How does this help our children?
Ok now your child is grown and knows better? Have you watched TV and movies lately that teens watch? Have you overheard teen girls talking while at the mall?
Right now parents of teens GUARD your boys. They are more at risk than ever of ending up in prison and ruining their lives forever, than is a child at risk by someone on the sex offender list! I have looked at goverment reports and the recidivism rates of those charged with another offense is as low as 2.6%. For a young man to charged? Look at your sons and watch who he goes out with very carefully. Young teen girls today are not what they used to be but the parents are on a rampage of hate, feed by lies and misconceptions.
Ray
Ask a pastor or historian on the age of Mary when she gave birth to the Lord. They all will tell you between the ages of thirteen and sixteen. Does this make the savior of the world, a sex offender??
Josh m.
yeah the act would be good ,and just heard about it though americas most wanted.I like the show.

First, I support the legislation and funding for the Adam Walsh project. ALL our kids deserve to be safe, loved, protected and cared for. Too many times, nobody cares about a little “nobody” child. Well, to me, MY children and grandchildren are as much royalty as anybody else’s. Comments like those posted by Chris Baines at 6:24 pm today made me sick, and mad, but mostly it makes me suspicious of that person. Who would make such a hideous statement? I say: PROTECT OUR KIDS at ALL COSTS. Keep them safe. I’d rather they be suspicious of everyone all the time than be taken for horrible reasons by somebody and never seen again. I would err on the side of caution. My youngest daughter went to the bank and called me, saying, “Mom….I pulled a Brenda. I went to the bank and looked all around me, in the mirrors, I locked my doors, I kept my car in gear, I rolled up all the windows.” I figured all these years….it finally sunk in. When you least expect it — it will happen. Be safe, and be prepared. Safety first — YOU GO JOHN WALSH. I’ve watched AMW for years, my children, and my grandchildren, too. It hurts me to see the pain on your heart, and so many other parents and family members when children are taken so viciously. My own nephew was murdered. Sad. 27 years old. We really have to cherish every single second of our lives. God bless you, and may God bless your work and all the children of this Nation. If I can help in any way, let me know.
Helen Finn
To all the people who think it is ok for a child to consent to an adult having sex with them needs to remember - the UNDERAGED person is not an adult ; key word is child. A 22 year old man with a 15 year old girl is just plain sick. I hope these laws are worked on to only make them stronger! Keep up the good work, Mr. Walsh. Keep fighting for our children.
Sarah
Hi my name is Sarah, I dont live in a America but I do watch AMW and love the show. I think this is a great idea. In Australia we arent as lucky to have people like John Walsh to stand up and not give up on these kinds of things.
I was molested by my 2nd cousin for about 10 years of my life. Im not as brave to tell my story as other people I read about because Im scared he will come back to get me. He doenst live in Australia atm and Im thankful.
I just wanted to let everyone know that there are people out there who are starting to feel that little bit more safe thanks to people like John Walsh.

THE ONLY THING I KNOW IS THAT WHATEVER IT TAKES TO HELP CHILDREN SHOULD BE REALLY CONSIDERD.FOR THOSE WHO CAN WRITE ABOUT JOHN WALSH’S TRADEGY IN ORDER TO GET THIER OPINION ACROSS SHAME ON YOU!!!!
Sandra Kenly , North Carolina
I personally think what John Walsh is doing is a great thing, if more people would get involved and pay more attention to these things and face the facts that this is an ongoing thing and try to help out more and stop being judgemental of others that want to help then we might can get more done. If you had a child that this happened to and John helped you then you would feel better about what he does. Not only does he try to catch child predators but he also tries to help with killers and other great things as well. Thank You and keep up the good work.
Michael
Mr. Walsh,
Please continue the fight for our children and please don’t forget that not only does the Act need the funding but the agencies (US Marshals and US Attorneys Office) involved will need positions to go with them. Either without the other turns the bill into just what you stated “just a good idea”.
I would also like to address the comment that the recidivism rate for sex offenders is only 5%. The recidivism rate is significantly higher than 5 percent and if I remember correctly its well over 80%. Additionally, the number of counts that most sex offenders face is almost always fewer than the number of crimes committed. Please don’t dress up your bogus statistics in an attempt to minimize their threat to our children.
John please keep the pressure on both Congress and the United States Attorneys Office to do the right thing.
emanuel
if convicted murderers deserve the death penalty i strongly think that humantraffickers, kidnappers, molesters, and rapists should get the death penalty too for me the forms of execution that these perverted lowlife pigs should getfor their punishment insteadof multiple life terms are the electric chair, firing squad, gas chamber, and last of all lethal injection
I SUPPORT JOHN WALSH AND CHILDREN RIGHTS
Make me wounder the cowards who are against this law are child Molesters themselves?
maybe if YOUR child OR a family Member ofyour gets HURT by ONE you have more Sesitive Thinking!! BUT you all seem to blame the child by putting this on here Tax dollars to the casinos IS more Important? make me wounder to!i pity YOUr momas for raising cold hearted ppl that you are~
Unknown
I was raped myslef when I was 17 years old. I only knew the guy a little bit but was too scared to tell my parents what happened therefore he was never covicted of anything, but I think this bill would let parents know where the sex offenders live instead of a state by state one it would include everyone. We need to protect our children since most kids are to scared to protect themselve.
Virginia

I am sorry for the pain you suffered. And i am also sorry that you did not come forward for help and to send this man to jail where he belongs since you knew him.
But was the man who raped you on the registry?
Would it had protected you if he was?
G.I Joe Is the AMERICAN HERO!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel bad for John Walsh for reading some of YOU ppl’s rubbish! SUPPORTING against Helping children and anyone WHO is a victim OR future Victim THINK about it!! THIS CAN HAPPEN to you or a love one! I agree there needs to be stronger laws for sex offenders and something needs to be done.
I was 3 1/2 years old when I was rapped and the rapes continued until I was 4 years old.
I was rapped by two guys neither one of them were realitives. People say when you are that young you don’t remember what happen. They are wrong I remember what was said, the guys involved and the places from the time it began until it ended. It never went in front of a judge.
when I was 17 years old my grandmother told me that Bill, should of been charged and my parents and realitives said he should of been charged. Dennis, the family never new he was involved until I told them when I was 16 years old. Billy or Dennis, never went to court, and was never charged. I am 27 years old now. I have a child of my own who I am very protected of he is 3 1/2. I never forgot what happen to me. How I still remember like it was yesterday. The NH system failed me and I know they will continue to fail our children If something is not done.
Billy died in 2003 and Dennis is still out there somewhere. Is he molesting another child who knows. I will never forget the gun held to my head and the knife held to my throat. How they threatend to throw me in the river if I said anything. How I got bit by the dog Billy went to touch me and the dog bit his hand and ended up bitting my leg to and the mark is still on my leg. I feel that even with the tighter laws and the registry there is so many sex offenders out there, this will not catch them all. It is only going to show the ones that are cought what about the ones who are not on the list. Know one knows who that person will be and where they are. It could be a stranger, realitive, neighbor, friend and so on.
I want to let parents know. This is coming from a victim of sexual abuse, and a person who has been raped physically, emotionaly and socially.
Watch who your children are with and how they act around the person(s). Try to keep your children in your sight all times. Never let your children walk, or even go anywhere by themselves with out you. If your child goes out to play tell your child to stay near a window where you can watch that child.
I learned the hard way. I was rapped by railroad tracks, behind stores, and in a house where there were people inside. The bathroom was upstairs and I was grabbed from behind by Billy and Dennis with the knife I was molested by both of them and no one knew I was being rapped. If I went to yell Dennis would threaten to slice my throat. He had the knife right againt my throat. There was so many people talking no one heard or saw what happend. Until one day when It was sore for me to go to the bathroom I would cry. I still rememer crying and how I was affraid to say anything. Thanks to my sister she told my parents and after that the rapes stopped. my mother stopped bringing to my grandparents house where Billy and Dennis were. They were friends of my grandmothers. The state of NH DCYS were aware of this they never brought charges against Billy. Dennis they never were aware he was involved too. Billy my grandmother told me the state felt Billy would of been found not guilty because he was mentally retarted.
I am sorry for this lengthy note. I want the public to know no matter what age you are you never forget. Some say children don’t remember that young. I did and still do today at the age of 27. Family didn’t even know all of the events until I told them when I was 16 and about the gun until I told them. the gun was found when my uncle cleaned out my grandparents cellular in 2002. 5 years after I told them about the gun. It was hidden in a box. My aunt and uncle were shocked when they found the gun and it was the gun I descried to them when I was 16. The gun was stolen in 1983.

I vote to fund the Adam Walsh Law, and I feel like sexual predators should not have rights when it comes to living anywhere near children, and they should all be issued a forrm of id similar to a state I.D. or driver’s license to indicate they are a sexual predator and not be able to hide in a neighborhood near schools, and this way reducing the temptation of living near children.
phil
predators are the worst of the worst. in florida all offenders and predators already have that mark on their i.d. But do you think that these laws will prevent crime. No law prevents crime. If someone want to committ it they will no matter where they live. what we need to do is educate and promote prevention. i think predators are that for a reason. but most confuse child molester and offender. probably because they are lumped together. some offenders are not monsters. some do go around parks hunting your children. anways i’d give my support if i thought i’d do good. it wont. just give people a false sense of security.
brenda
I think The Adam Walsh act is one of the best. Why would we eeven want these people out on our streets? For what reason? We all Need to rally together to support this. My heart goes out to John . I cant begin to image what it would be like to go through anything like that.
phil
you just dont get it the word offender is so broad you say offender and they think child perv so so not true do some research and find out what can get you on the list then come back and rant and rave ignorant people make me sick some of the walsh act is good but other parts need work isnt it better to keep someone in the same environment and monitor them then force them to leave because of the myth of stranger danger. you need to stop looking at the list and start worring about your own family. do research and you’ll find out that the government is going to take everyones rights away. dont beleive me. read how hitler came to power. then you’ll see over 80 years later usa is pre-nazi. wake up an use common sense.

I just wanted to say thank-you to all the efforts put in by AMW and John Walsh. I do support the Adam Walsh Act and I did write to my congressmen. Our children should be top priority. I do think there should be a few adjustments to the bill such as the lued act-running around naked as a joke. But, everyone that has a child should always be concerned about what people are in contact with that child. Whether, its family, friends, teachers, etc.

Bravo! Lot’s of great Points. I agree the ‘facts’ of the offense should be shown on the “Sex Offender Register” as well as original charges & convicted for’s. (many charges downgraded by plea bargan).
And, Quit! Saying that someone that had been a victim of sex abuse could grow up to be an offender, not true, thats a lie. thank you
better idea
I do agree with both sides, yes I do think that we need the registry and yes I don’t think the subjects on there that were part of consensual sex should have to go through the same as the real sex offenders. Why can’t they fine tune this a little bit? Why not have a code that shows the real sex offenders from the subjects on there cause “janes” mother and father don’t think she should be sexually active? Then it would make it alot easier to determine as parents what we need to watch out for.
brenda
sex predators are the worst kind of human beings. They should all be put away for LIFE!!! Doesnt everyone know the statistics once the are out they are vey likely to reoffend so why give them the chance to just keep em.
Karen C
I wrote to my congress to support this act. This is the first time i ever did anything like this.I believe in this with all my heart!! Thank you John and AMW , For all that you have done. The world is so lucky to have you fighting for us and with us!!! Love U All!
Kim
First of all all the people who don’t support the
AWA seem to only worried about adults having
sex with minors. There are more children being sexually abused everyday that is never reported to
the police. That scars the child for a lifetime.
DOES IT HAVE TO HAPPEN IN YOUR FAMILY FOR
YOU TO CARE, I BET IT WOULD. MOST FAMILIES
THINK THAT IT WONT HAPPEN TO THEM, AND
THEN THEIR DARKEST DAY COMES.
IT IS THE BEST LAW OF THE BOOKS AND I AM
DOING WHATEVER I CAN TO MAKE SURE IT GETS
FUNDED IN MICHIGAN. AWA MUST BE IN ALL 50
STATES AND THEN MAYBE OUR CHILDREN WILL
HAVE A FIGHTING CHANCE. JOHN WALSH IS
A GREAT MAN WITH A WONDERFUL HEART
ROCK ON JOHN YOU ARE THE BEST.

To Sarah,
You should try to track Dennis down. As you know sexual offenders tend to be repeat offenders and who knows, he might have someone’s missing child right now.
It does no good to have stiffer laws if we are silent.
When we relize how many offenders there are and who they effected things might change.
John should have a site for us to name our molesters for mothers to check when they question someones character in their gut.
You could have a disclaimer, but Mom’s could type a name and if they come up as being named say 3 times, both Mom’s and authorities can be aware.
If it did not involve having to go to court many more would speak up.
So many have not been caught and avoid arrest giving them opportunity to hurt some one else.
We need more forums to tell stories like Sara’s. This would be better than laws!
Keith Richard Radford Jr
The Child, by Keith Richard Radford Jr.
The child used to go to parades with some of the family who molested him.
The child loved everyone.
The child lived life full rounded, surrounded by family that cared till someone in the crunch found out.
The child could not understand why it was necessary to go where warned they likes boys.
No change.
Everyone moved on but the stigma hovered wile story’s told and parades became a thing of the past.
The child could not understand why things became so bad till things became clear.
The days spent concerned over others feeling about something was and seems to remain a waste.
It’s the hate that perpetuate the crime.
Care for your family, take care of your man, love and peace do not come from rage.
Most can see both sides and take charge of their lives with some support.
Those that are getting support be thankful every day. Most have no idea what they are doing to themselves, their families, the worlds people and peace on earth.

Dear Reader(s),
How much longer is “long enough?” Waiting for someone else to urge Congress to enact The John Walsh Law, or for another child, to fall victim to senseless acts of “self indulgence,” brought on by sick Predatory inhumane individuals waiting for their next victim? The time is now! Otherwise,” why worry about a tomorrow, we’re cutting short today?”

I support John Walsh in whatever he does. He lost his son and he is now fighting to protect total strangers children from dangerous predators, known and unknown . This is a BIG world and sure someone may slip through the cracks (God forbid) but it happens but at least we can at least be aware of some of the potential danger out there. God is smiling down on John Walsh for all the good he has done and he is a very admirable man. Do you criticizers have the nerve, enthusiasm and everything it takes to do what this man has accomplished for so many families? If so, rise to the challenge!

You are so interested in sex affenders, what do you expect to ,,or are you going to do about the men or women who have murdered young babies and children…They spend their time in jail, get out, live wherever they want, no on is notified that they are living by a murderer, or they have killed children….most times their own!!!!.You all seem so worried about sex, how does this differ from the child who was murdered…you find their little bodies, choked, drowned, burned ,however there death….what is the legal step to let the world know who are viscous people are who murder….There should be no difference in a murderer than there is sex offense, when it comes to notfication of the public of the one who murders….Do I konw if my neighbor has been in or accused of murder? NO I DON”T.. BUT, I do know some who have been in for murder, and they are allowed to go about thier daily routine as though they are not an …OFFENDER CRIMINAL LAW, AND THAT THEY ARE A LAW ABIDING CITIZEN…. A murderer is just as likely to repeat, as a sexual predator..There are also needs to be higher standards and rules that are made for your law enforcement officials.

We have a trial March 28th 8am Douglas County CO. Social Services and the Sheriff’s Office closed the case. The 4 yr old was raped by father several times, from descriptions given by child. Douglas County prides themselves on having “no paperwork” and “we don’t file cases in Douglas County”. This man is still loose - no search warrant taken out, house was not investigated, Soc.Services and Deputy would not allow a forensic physical exam - even though it’s a law - and we couldn’t have it done because Soc.Services and the Deputy are supposed to get it done - yet they refused! So, since Douglas County has such a terrible reputation - we have now learned from numerous people, including many professionals, be sure not to move to Douglas County. You will NOT be protected. If your child is raped/sodomized/and made to perform illegal acts at age 4, Douglas County will not protect you! We need help. Is there anything you can do to help us.

dear mr john walsh. im a big fan , iv,e seen recently , that you are trying to start a DNA on all felonies, with a national data base too keep track of all inmates, which is a great idea, but my thought takin it a little deeper, too help eliminate crime 20 years from now, by having a national data base for every new born child registerd from this day forward , i believe it would bring down crime 75– 80 % brutal killing,s and the cost cant be no more than some of these so called goverment projects doing nothing but wasting tax dollars , anyway thats been on my mind a long tyme , keep up the good work GOD has bless you with , and thank you so much

Probably a little late to comment here but I am going to any way.
I am a mother of three beautiful children, and am willing to do anything in order to protect them. I am also a survivor of child sexual abuse. When I went through what happened to me, it was more terrible than any words can describe. It took several years of therapy to undo the mental damage that I obtained during this time in my life. However, I did make it through all of this, and now use this knowledge to help protect my children. I also search the registry data base looking for sex offenders in my area to be better educated on potential dangers. I say potential because I know that not all of the sex offenders on the registry pose a threat to my children.
I have taken much time to research the subject of Sex Offenders and re-offense rates, and have found that youth are more likely to recover from sexual deviancy than adults are, I also know that some adults do well with treatment, that does not mean I would ever trust them around my little ones. I look mostly on there for ones convicted of crimes against children. I do not limit myself to the registry, I broaden my awareness to include people who are not on there, because I understand that often times the people who hurt are kids are not on the list. The man in my case was not, and many others are not. I also think that the Adam Walsh Act has got a little far, and should be revised to better benefit America so that we can better educate ourselves and not worry unnecessarily about sex offenders, who do not poss a great risk our children. Education is a key in protecting are kids, we need to stop focusing so much time on the ones that we know are sex offenders, but look else were for dangers around us. Such as in are homes or the homes of our friends and are children’s friends.
Nobody wants to say that Uncle Joe is a molester, and sometimes he isn’t, but we should be aware that are children are more likely to be hurt by people we know rather than a stranger, do note that I am not saying that convicted sex offenders are safe, I am saying that there is so much hype about the registry that some of us forget to check our own closets for the monster. We depend sometimes on others to much for the protection we seek.

I like that you’ve posted the link and for those that are computer literate they may take the extra steps to send this request through. This is soley my suggestion for those who are not computer literate and once they click their congressman or representative’s link and still have to continue to search for options to send this petition. I believe we may lose those possible petitions. Why not make it easier by once this is clicked it leads them to the petition. Just an idea to get more people involved. Thanks Eliza

I am a 100% fan of John Walsh. I am a victim of sexual assault at the age of 14 from someone I knew casually and molested by my stepfather at the age of 16 (my mom didn’t believe me). Both were protect by someone so they were never convicted. No they were not a any registry but if as a victim I had been given the choice to make a report and follow through with it and told that if found guilty it automatically places them on a registry I believe victims would be more willing to cooperate with this process. At times I still see the one that sexually assaulted me and I wonder what would have been of my life if I had reported it to the authorities. In the case of my stepfather, I didn’t meet my mother until I was 16, my parents divorced and it was a bitter divorce she moved to California and we lived in Texas. Before I met my mother (if you can call her that) my sister and brother had already met her for a year and lived with her a year before I did. They both returned home and my sister denied that anything happened even though there was suspicion that there had. The night my world changes: My mom had a party at our house– there was liquor all kinds of drinking going on she approved and encouraged that I drink screwdriver (vodka and orange juice) I had never drank before so I was out for the night on the first drink. It was that night that her husband came in the bedroom. To make a long story short after it was found out that this happened because my school got involved my mother’s only question was “Does you’re uncle” know (her brother) because she knew that he was fawned of me –he was helping me with my dream of going to medical and he would really be upset with her. In court when the judge told her that her husband could not come near the home until all this was investigate she responded, “But he is my income”–I was put in a children’s receiving home then sent to Texas at job corp. So my life was in turmoil but I survived. And my mother well her husband died a year later (he was an alcoholic) and to this day she still believes that I got pregnant through someone else and that I just blame her husband. Unbelievable, I was to naive to know anything about that my dad didn’t even alllow us to have girlfriends much less a boyfriend. But what can you say of someone (my mother) who abandoned her children at their young age of 3 and 4. Now, I am very protective of my 15 yr old daughter and although I can not be with her at all times I have shared these tragic moments in my life. I might not be able to protect her 100% but I will do everything in my power to do so. So if this campaign is a step toward helping the meek, the vunerable and people who have no idea of what it’s like to be a victim, please at least give a helping hand in the right direction. Let’s stop continuing to enable these scums of the earth and start by allowing us to be several steps ahead of them. Let’s start somewhere and rectify as needed. I am a successful adult, but I have never been able to forget what happened to me and my healing continues and has come through sharing what happened to me and helping others.

Thank GOD something is being done! Good work to everyone! Don’t never stop standing up for our babies. They are so worth it!

im still here to help, anyone whom is out there that has a child that may have been mistreated in the wrong way,or if your adult that has had to live all your life with the pain of someone hurting you,,

We need to start by combating the real issue…why do kids go with strangers/predators? Many children are taught that a stranger is anyone they don’t know, but it actuallly goes deeper than that. Until we get our children to understand that a stranger can also be someone with a familiar face such as a neighbor or even someone you met while with your parents…and that there are good and bad strangers they will sadly continue to be led away. Lets help children understand how to protect themselves! I am an author and I wrote a book that reaches children. Reach them before a predator does!

To Sherrie E. and any other person that thnks the “recidivism” is an appropriate term for this behavior makes me wonder… Per Webster’s dictionary recidivism is a tendency to relapse into a previous condition or mode of behavior: relapse of criminal behavior. Pedophiles and rapist have the LOWEST rates of “recidivism” from their destructive behaviors…actually it is a continual status that they do not stop unless they are put in jail for life. If and when they are released they go right back to these life changing……horrible choices..They do not stop or relapse they are pedophiles and rapist from teen age until death….ALL studies show tthat his is true; the pedophiles and rapists that decide to be honest say that they can’t and won’t stop these behaviors so yes I believe Congress should have stricter laws on this than on thief or drugs…because we LOVE , CHERISH, and NEED TO PROTECT Our CHILDREN………………more than we care about a tv, dvd player, or a weed head. They should do time, but nothing like the pedophiles or rapists. Thank you.
