Keep Your Kids Close At Crowded Events

This weekend, Washington D.C. city leaders expect somewhere between 4 and 5 million visitors to descend upon the city during the four-day celebration of President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration. This may be one of the largest crowds in American history, and personal and family safety should always be a primary concern.

Whether in a busy airport, a crowded shopping mall or at a parade, you need to take special care to be aware of your surroundings, both keeping children close and safe, and watching out for suspicious situations.

If you get separated from your child in a crowd, you need to be sure to have a plan; both you and your kids need to be clear on what it is. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) reminds us that child safety is a year-round priority. Parents need to keep lines of communication with their children open to help make sure they know exactly what to do in an emergency.

We have plenty of great advice right here at the AMW Safety Center for you to keep in mind for any type of crowd you find yourself in with your kids:

When I go anywhere that is bound to have large crowds…we always have a plan but also, I like to tie a helium balloon to my child’s wrist so that if we are separated I can look for a brightly colored ballon before I start to ‘freak out’…. just a thought for you to consider….

That’s an ok idea, but a stranger can easily pop the balloon or cut the string and hang it on something or even cut it and let it go.

A child alert gps is another good thing to look into they sell them at toys r us and at radio shak they cost you about 19.95 comes with 2 double a batteries doracel .

it looks like a wrist watch for the child and the parent gets the large monator it beeps when the child is out of reach eye level and out of the area where you are at . you set it for the range of distance you want it to be at and when the child walks away the child gps beeps it is easy to operate and to use .

the best wayis to keep a eye on your kids or get a child lease that works just as well. they have cute child they come in cute animals like monkey or a frog or a bear cub that will run you about 12.99 to 19.99 at places like walmart or toys r us or at kmart or any other place that sells childrens clothes and apareal. it looks cute and it will keep your kids close by it slips over your wrist the child gets to have a back pack looking lease it is cool .
