As many as 1 in 6 women will be victims of sexual assault in their life time. Are you taking the necessary precautions in your life to minimize your chances of becoming a victim? The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network has some great resources to help you stay on guard against a dangerous situation. There is no certain one way to stay safe, but there are things you can do to reduce your risk.
- Use common sense. Look out for your surroundings; stick with people you know and trust.
- Listen to your instincts. If you are in a situation that makes you feel uncomfortable, do what you can to get out of that situation.
- If you see a friend who is going off with someone you don’t trust, try to intervene.
- If someone you are with does not seem to respond when you say no, or stop, take that as a sign that they will not respect your wishes.
