Chemical spills, terrorist attacks, extreme weather - these are fears all Americans face every day. Thousands of people will die every year in disaster related accidents that could have been prevented, but you can be prepared.
It’s National Emergency Preparedness Week, and one of the best steps you can take to be prepared is to put together a Disaster Kit.
The Red Cross recommends that every household keep a disaster kit readily available in case of emergencies in addition to a portable kit if you must evacuate. The materials and procedures outlined here just may mean the difference between life and death.
For more information about preparing your family’s disaster kit, check out the Red Cross.

hey guys…i think it’s great to get people educated on disaster packs. i work with the jr red cross and it’s so important to have some sort of emergency pack ready. one emergency candle would keep you warm enough to stay alive in a car trapped in snow until sunlight. i mean, just the little things will help.

The Red Cross has a wonderful list. They left off one important thing, MONEY. Keep $100 in ones and a roll of quarters. My understanding in the late 1980’s earthquake in California, people were paying for a gallon of milk with a $20 bill. This was because the ATMs only dispensed $20 bills. And, no one could not make change.
