According to the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), Neighborhood Watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the country. It’s a great way for communities to engage with law enforcement and to take an active role in making their neighborhoods safer.
What you might not realize is that your kids can also be a great resource for Neighborhood Watch as well. Getting kids involved in neighborhood clean up events, or in helping to cover up graffiti are a couple of examples of ways to take advantage of their energy and ideas. The experts at the NCPC highlight many of the long term benefits to getting kids involved early on. By building trust in law enforcement and developing an understanding of crime and prevention in your kids from a young age, you are taking a big step towards getting them to contribute positively to your neighborhood and community.
