The holidays should be a fun time for everyone, but with everything that’s going on this time of year, I want to make sure you remember your street smarts, and keep everyone safe.
Earlier this month, we aired a special segment on AMW featuring Julie Clark. Julie created the “Baby Einstein” video series, and she and I work together on “The Safe Side” series of safety videos for kids. In the broadcast, Julie talked about some important safety tips to keep in mind as you and your children enjoy the holidays. It’s advice that I think can’t be repeated often enough. Julie and I work closely with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and these tips are based on information provided by NCMEC’s experts:
- In a crowded place always keep physical and visual contact with your kids.
- Make sure your kids know what to do if they get separated from you. Teach them to find a parent with children, someone who works in a store or a security guard to help them.
- Teach your children that if they do get lost, they should stay in the area where they last saw you, because that’s where you’ll look for them first.
- Remember that although we invite a lot of people into our homes this time of year, we may not know some of them very well. Never leave your kids alone with an adult you don’t know very well.
- Remind your children that people who look good sometimes do bad things, so if an adult does something that makes them uncomfortable, they should let you or someone else they trust know about it.

i have a neighbor who had a convicted predator staying at her house she never told me, my daughter would go over there to play and this guy was in the house. you would never have known by how he looked that he was a predator. i found out by looking at the sex offender list in my neighborhood. when i confronted her about this she was like i thought you knew. how ignorant. he moved out over 2 months ago but still has not changed his address. i reported this. i to have found out he is doing the same thing he was convicted for i also reported this.

Thank you so much for sharing the information that you have on internet predators. As a grandmother of a pre-teen girl, I try to stay informed as much as possible on this crime. Teens at her age are too trusting of people they do not know and need to be constantly reminded that not all people in society,
can be trusted. That the person who claims to be 17 year old football star may very well be a 50 year old sexual predator preying on her innocence.
Keep providing tips especially targeted at young teens . I share all information I get with her friends.

I have a least fifteen sex affenders living around me . When my husband isn’t home I make sure my doors and windows are locked. Just remember you can’t be sure of anyone these days. keep a close watch out.
