Start Celebrating Safe Communities Today

For 25 years, the National Night Out campaign has worked to celebrate the efforts made by thousands of communities all over the country to mobilize law enforcement officials and local neighborhood groups working to build positive relationships and mutual trust. This year, Washington DC hosted the national kick-off event on the National Mall.

The police know they can’t be everywhere, so an effective campaign requires citizens to keep an eye out in their own neighborhoods. This means residents, businesses, schools, adults and children, each doing their part to build a safer environment.

National Night Out is a major opportunity to celebrate the efforts of your community, but you don’t have to wait until next year to get involved. The National Crime Prevention Council sponsors Crime Prevention Month each October, and this year as part of those activities they are promoting the Celebrate Safe Communities (CSC) initiative. Take time now to learn more about these events and how you can kick off some activities in your own community. CSC aims to spread important prevention and safety messages with the hope of initiating year round activities to help keep your neighborhood safe from drugs, gangs and crime.

Check out the NCPC’s Celebrate Safe Communities site for more information about how you can launch and register your own local crime prevention initiative.
