Don’t Forget To Take Care Of Your Heart

You might not think it could happen to you, but heart disease is the top killer of American men and women. The CDC reports that almost 700,000 people die each year of heart disease in the US. February is American Heart Month, and each year, the American Heart Association’s thousands of volunteers work to raise money and spread the word about heart disease.

You can help reduce your chances of heart disease by taking steps to control factors that put you at greater risk:

  • Control your blood pressure through healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Lower your cholesterol by exercising more and eating more fruits and vegetables
  • Don’t smoke
  • Get enough exercise

Check out the National Institutes of Health or the American Heart Association for more information on how you can help prevent heart disease or helping someone at risk. Additionally, heart attack is one of the most common results of heart disease, and so learning how to identify the warnings signs could be critical to saving a life. Check out our post on Sudden Cardiac Arrest right here on the AMW Safety Center to learn how you can quickly respond if someone you know is falling victim to a heart attack.
