Taking The Upper Hand During A Carjacking

A series of chilling crimes are terrorizing residents of southern Florida. Police in Boca Raton are in pursuit of a man they believe is targeting women in shopping center parking lots, attacking them as they approach their cars. If you are attacked by a potential carjacker reacting in a split second may save your life. Here are a few things to think about:

  • Assess the situation, is there an easy way to escape safely? Is the attacker armed?
  • If the attacker gets into into your car and forces you to drive somewhere, drive erratically. This may get you noticed. Attempt to drive to a police station.
  • If the suspect is forcing you to drive to an ATM, use the opportunity to escape. The suspect is expecting you to get out and move around. Take off running.
  • If you have a child with you, comply with the attacker and make sure you let them you will do anything so that they do not hurt the child.

If you do come face to face with an attacker, check out this AMW Safety Center advice about how you can be a good witness and help police put your attacker behind bars.

this person could be a pool cleaner due to the clothes, fanny pack, and goggles. many pool cleaners in our area wear kahki pants, bluejean shirts with white t shirts underneath, floppy hats and a fanny pack to hold the pool chemicals. they also have the freedom to be out and about in daytime.

A woman in Santa Rosa, CA was recently carjacked in a Safeway parking lot while loading her car with groceries. She had a young child in the car and complied with the attackers demands. He had her drive to a secluded location, raped and stabbed her. She was heavily criticized for not fighting back by people posting comments on local newspaper websites. I honestly don’t know what I would do if I were in her situation, but I still think she did everything right - she SURVIVED!

I witnessed a carjacking right behind my car in 2004 where an elderly woman would not let go of the car that was been stolen. The result was she was shot in the head, RIGHT BEHIND US!!! She was still holding the car when it too off and flew through the air! I found out later that she hung on for a month then died. I have never learned her name but I still have trouble with this incident. If the carjackers let you out, let them have the car, your belongings but don’t risk your life and the lives of those around you. 45 minutes after this carjacking, a man was killed in an ambush murder. I think the two are related. Never saw a word about it on the news or papers (the carjacking). This happened in a Fry’s Supermarket parking lot with lots of people around.

How can a perp get into your car if it is locked? Article doesn’t tell us how the perp gets into the car. Why do people want cars, carjack you, then abandon the car? Answer me those questions.
