Sexual Assault: Getting Help Now

Every two minutes, someone is sexually assaulted in the United States. Of those assaults, an estimated 60 percent are not reported to the police. The Rape Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) operates a national hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE, to help connect rape survivors anywhere in the country with their local rape crisis center. RAINN also launched an online hotline through their website, providing victims with even more anonymity than over the phone.

For teens who spend a lot of time online, or for victims who may have trouble verbalizing their trauma, the online hotline provides you with a secure anonymous conversation with someone specially trained to help.

Whether online or over the phone, the RAINN hotline connects you to someone in your community who understands local laws, and who has relationships with local police and hospitals. They can help you in reporting your crime, or even provide you with emotional support hours — or even years — after your attack, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I just watched your video and as an ACOA and incest survivor myself am so grateful for people like RAINN who are so committed to being there to help with the online hotline. It is true that certain things are difficult to verbalize yet need to be gotten out and the IM availability coupled with a trained person will certainly save many from the isolating lonliness one often feels. Thank you for caring enough to speak up about people who are often to scared or who don’t care enough about themselves to speak up about themselves. I know God blesses you.
