Does Your Babysitter Know How To Handle An Emergency?

At some point, most parents are going to come to a day when they need some help taking care of a child, and may require the help of a babysitter. Some might benefit from having a parent or relative who can fill in these duties. Or as is often the case, can enlist the help of a trusted teenager. But how can you be sure that these teens are prepared to react quickly and correctly in an emergency?

The Red Cross offers a training regiment that is geared towards 11-15 year old babysitters, and helps to make sure they are ready. The Red Cross training shows teens how to:

  • Interview for a babysitting job
  • Choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games
  • Perform first aid and respond to an emergency
  • Learn diapering and feeding techniques

Contact your local Red Cross chapter for information on when the classes are offered and how to register. Or check out the Red Cross’ website for some quick tips and downloadable materials to get started today and have a safe babysitting experience.

My daughter took this course offered by the ARC, “Babysitting Bootcamp!” It was a week-long program during the summer and she earned at least four certificates in safety. When she interviews for a babysitting job, she brings along all of the helpful materials the program offered her relative to safety/life-saving techniques. She is one of the most sought-after babysitters in our neighborhood.

Excellent program, well worth the investment!

Babysitting bootcamp….. How way cool! Too many kids are left to fend for each other.. And the parents think this is enough to qualify their child to babysit other’s children. GOD BLESS! My child will go through training A LOT of it, before tending to someone else’s . This has already been decided. NOW even more-so.
