On Tuesday, August 7, 2007 join your neighbors and your community as millions celebrate National Night Out. Since 1984, the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) has vigorously promoted this event which has served to create a stronger relationship between law enforcement and local communities. By building awareness and community involvement, neighborhoods across the country have been able to significantly reduce crime rates and clean up their blocks.
National Night Out began with 2 million participants in its first year. Since then, participation has steadily grown to involve over 35 million all over the country.
The National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) cites a number of examples of marked improvements from implementing a neighborhood watch.
- Lakewood, Colorado documented a 77 percent drop in burglaries after implementing Neighborhood Watch.
- Cypress, California was able to cut burglaries by 52 percent and thefts by 45 percent with their Neighborhood Watch.
According to NATW, this night represents a great opportunity for promoting police-community partnerships, crime prevention, and neighborhood camaraderie. One night is not going to be a final solution, but it promotes an interaction which is beneficial to preventing crime throughout the rest of the year. Check out the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) or the National Night Out website for more information on how you might be able to join in on events in your area.

On August 11th, 2007. The City of Topeka, Kansas, has 30 communities involved in the National Night Out compared to 21 communities last year. Topeka has several neighborhood watch groups as weel as Shawnee County. Topeka also has started a Citizen Patrol Coalition of Topeka-Shawnee County. As the saying goes “We are the eyes and ears for the communities”. The more eyes and ears the less crime activities.

I live ine Apache junction,AZ Last there was a neighbor watch that got started up. A year or so before that they tried to get it going but it didn’t pan out. This year it is taking off real well. People are coming out of their apartments and meeting their neighbors and watching out. It’s a great suggess. And it seems when the police are called the faster they respond.

This is our first year to participate, and it will be a terrific event for National Night Out 2007.
It will be in San Antonio TX at Francis Furey Apartments, so if you are in the neighborhood, please come and eat from 4p-7p and send the criminals packing as we will enjoy their departure.
We have a Cellular on Patrol group and with this
party, hope to see our group grow.
