Even with constant reminders to prepare for an emergency, lots of people go unprepared for emergencies and disasters and this could cost you your life. Here in the AMW Safety Center, our motto is Preparation and Response. March is Red Cross Month, and it’s a great time to talk a little bit about what that means. If you aren’t prepared, it’s never too late to get started.
The Red Cross can do its work because people like you get involved and volunteer: the Red Cross responds to about 70,000 disasters a year, helping out millions of people. There’s a good chance that you may need them someday.
Did you know that the Red Cross is the largest supplier of blood? That’s because every year 4 million people give blood. This month is a great time to find your local blood drive and give the “gift of life”.
The Red Cross also offers a lot of training. You can take classes on everything from training babysitters to swimming to CPR and first aid training. Check RedCross.org to find your local chapter. This can be a big step toward really making a difference in an emergency.
Do you know what your family will do in a disaster? The Red Cross urges you to get prepared with a disaster plan. Put together a portable disaster kit ready to go in case disaster hits when you’re not expecting it. Check out this AMW Safety Center video to help you put it together. You just never know when your time will come because of a fire, flood, hurricane or another type of natural disaster. Take a few minutes to visit the Red Cross’s website and put together your kit. If you wait it may be too late.
Here at the AMW Safety Center, we’ve partnered with the National Red Cross to bring you lots of great information to keep your family safe in all kinds of emergencies. Check out the Video Gallery and we have articles in every category in the AMW Safety Center.
Get prepared now: not only will you be making a difference, you may be saving your own life.
