According to the Federal Trade Comission, as many as 9 million Americans fall victim to some type of identity theft every year. Would you know what to do if you became a target?
Matthew Bowen, online expert for the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) offers some simple advice to help protect yourself online.
- Most online institutions promise to never ask for your password or account number in an e-mail.
- If you get an e-mail regarding some confusion with your account, never click on links in the e-mail.
- Log directly into your bank’s website, look for your account information, and review the details of your account.
Check out NCPC’s security center for more information on keeping your family safe online.
