Sudden Cardiac death is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. It claims 300,000 to 400,000 lives per year.
Public attacks of Sudden Cardiac Arrest have a higher survival rate than home based incidences because the victims are more likely to receive CPR from bystanders. The reaction of bystanders is critical to the victim’s survival prior to the arrival of emergency medical technicians. The Red Cross provides CPR classes for the general public to increase the awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and increase the survival rates.
