Ask John Walsh: Reporting Child Abuse

it you see a child being abuse what do you do? and if your child gose missing do you go to the nearest police? how do you take death?

WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOUR CHILDREN KNOW A CHILD IS BEING PHYSICALLY ABUSED BY THEIR STEP PARENT AND THE PARENT KNOWS AND YOU WANT TO HELP BUT YOU WANT TO MIND YOUR BUSINESS AS WELL?

i’d like to remain anonymous but, my step daughter is being abused by her mother, just like her older sister before her. Her older sister was molested many many time when she was younger and the mother didnt care, now one of the men that molested HER are hanging around with the mother again at the same house with my step daughter. She has come to visit us ONLY when the mother will allow and when she gets here we find out why it has been so long, she doesnt send her back to us until whatever she has done to her heals, whether it be busted lips, knocked out or broken teeth, facial cuts or whatever. the mother takes her to the psychiatrist, and never lets her talk, so the mother tells the psychiatrist what she wants him to hear so he will think she is crazy and he puts her on all kind of medicine that she doesnt need. She tried to tell someone at school and also, social services and police officers have been to the house to question them, the problem is, they keep going straight to the mother and asking HER, and then if they question the child they do it with her standing there. she is too afraid to say anything to them with her standing there. i dont understand why someone in that incompatent town WONT DO SOMETHING! please help

What are you supposed to do when you have contacted the police and they do nothing about it? I reported child abuse to the Olahoma City police and nobody even showed up to check on the child. It’s unbelievable!!! I just moved to this state and so far I have found that the Oklahoma City police are not doing the job that I would expect them to do. This poor child was being beaten by his parent and I stressed that to the woman who answered the phone. I could not believe that an officer did not show up. I feel like I shouldn’t even bother calling anymore…what’s the point..they don’t care obviously. the Deparment of Human Services here in Oklahoma is guilty of the same thing…two children that I know of have fallen through the cracks. It’s very sad that people still allow this to happen. So again, what am I supposed to do if nobody seems to care?

Is it true that if a minor commits a sex crime that they don’t have to register as a sex offender? what if they reoffend, no one will no about the previous offense. They’ll get off easy again won’t they?

why is it that child molesters are alowed to return to the public where they are free to hurt another child ,isnt there something more we can do , we should never let them out of jail, there should be a life sentence for child molesters

john i want to thank-you for trying to help other people that are going throught this you are a blessing for those that are in need. i went through this 20 years ago and had no one to help me. my three daughters and 1 stepson were all hurt and no one wanted to help me cause then people would find out what has happened. well i wish you were around at that time. we all have moved on but i never for get the pain and being alone at that time. so again i say thank-you with all of my heart that you are doing something for the people so that they are not alone. that is the one thing that we do not need to have noone to believe you or make you feel like an outcast. take care and God bless you.

I know there are many missing children and I searched your site to find Jeffrey Klungness. He is not listed. His mother was murdered in her Bonney Lake, WA home and Jeffrey has not been seen since. He was 15. I believe he was murdered too. I have searched the forests, perk test sites and creeks all over Pierce county and can not find him. The police searched very hard also.
Jeffrey has speacial needs and is not one who would have been able to make it on his own.
Please contact the Tacoma Police Dept. and get the informaton needed to post a search for information about Jeffrey. I can’t drive past a marsh, forest or out of the way site without wondering where he might be. Closure is needed.
Little Teeka Lewis is still missing too. She was 5 and from Tacoma.

what do you do when you have worked on solving a case for 19 almost 20 years and it seems that no one is listing? Amy Mihaljevic was abducted from Bay Village Ohio in 1989 and her body was discovered in Feb. 1990. there’s been tons of reports made and followed up on and then some just seem to go away.More recently a picture was posted on the Amy blog and in that picture was a woman that in all these years has never been seen before. No one had ever heard of her. The thing with the picture is that it does look just like one of the composites,they could have passed for brother and sister. Then it’s reported that this woman was a friend of the family and she some how was there at the house and even cut Amy’s hair just a few day’s before Amy went missing. Could it be that she was the one that gave information to this person in the composite unknowingly? It was said that the information was something only family would know, but the abductor knew it. Then there was the other composite that looks like a man that I interviewed years later that told an unbelievable story of another child, it just sounded to me like he was confessing to the killing only he was trying to explain what had happened and he used other people ,his own children who I might add were all grown-up at the time this happened to Amy, in place of Amy.The last question he asked about her was” was she molested?”. I found that to be very odd too. The thing is he too likes very much like the other composite that is rare and has never been seen much. The one man is from within the area Amy’s body was found approx.7 miles. The other was seen the night before where the discovery was made, but he is the one that looks like the picture of the woman that the Mihaljevic children called Aunt Ruth. It’s like abuse of a dead child for letting this case go on and on for years. Can you check it out?
