Deirdre H. from Tennessee writes in for help in finding her child who went missing earlier this year. After his own son went missing in 1981, John Walsh found that there were hardly any resources available to help track down missing kids. Following this personal tragedy, he and his wife went on to found the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The network of resources that they’ve been able to provide has been instrumental in helping to raise the recovery rate of missing children from 62% to 96%.
- When you call police about a missing child, be ready to give them specific identifying details about your child. The more you can tell them the better.
- Tell them exactly where they were last seen and what they were wearing at the time they were last seen.
- Ask that your child’s name be entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) missing persons file, to make it available to law officials everywhere.
- Call the NCMEC hotline (1-800-THE-LOST), they will be able to spread an alert to police all over the country.

John,
My daughter has just finished a screenplay on pedophiles and lack of laws protecting our children.
The main theme of the movie is that every state should have the Adam Walsh Protection Act in force and implemented. One thing is missing from the ending.Could not find out what states have actively supported and funded The Adam Walsh Protection Act so it is part of each States legislation. Could you tell me how many states have fully complied and are using this important Act. So far I have not seen it funded by the government. This is more than just a movie. It is a statement to open peoples
eyes and our contribution in making a change for the children of the US.
You are the Best!!!!!

I’m from canada. I wish we had the john walsh act here. When I was 6 years old I got into a car with a stranger. I was molested, luckily I was dropped off. I have two little girls and I live with the fear of what could happen if they were to get loss or worse, abducted.
PS John Walsh is a godsend

frist of all please dont take me wrong for what i am about to say,i love what your show as done for many and the love that shows ,even through the T.Vscreen for others, here i go, the topic on wht can i do if my child goes missing was wonderful advice ,,but i am concernd about telling my child to go up a officer or a worker with a bage if we should get seperaterd, because people that hurt childern is everywhere and can be dressed as the officer or worker, when my childern were young i would tell them to scream as loud as they could over and over mommy mommy mommy mommy, because alot of people could hear them and see the person that will help them find me. (its hard to trust anyone) GOD BLESS your show for many more years to come!!!!!!

I have to say that the web sites for missing and exploited children really came through for me when my child was missing. My daughter ran away, and I turned to the law enforcement and The missing and exploited children. My daughter called me after a week and told me that she wanted to come home because she had no place to run to because her picture was ALL OVER the country. I, along with the help of friends, put up over 300 flyers in my community and all along the east coast flyers were up. So if there was one thing I learned it was FLYERS and the media are a key in locating your child. I must say being without my child for even a week was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. My prayers are with all the parents who do not know where their child is. It is a horrible feeling. God Bless you!!!
John Walsh, keep up all your hard and dedicated work, your so appreciated.
