JW: Online dating services are very popular – but potentially dangerous. Unfortunately, they not only attract people looking for romance, but also scam artists prowling for their next victim. No matter how inviting or enticing the correspondence may seem with someone you’ve met on a dating site, this is a stranger; someone you don’t know. There’ve been too many cases on AMW where young women thought they were meeting a nice guy through an online service – then found out they were actually talking to a wanted fugitive. So, always remember your street smarts when communicating with someone from one of these sites, and don’t give anyone personal information about yourself that can be used to harm you.

I was recently fooled by a man online. He is a tall , handsome, well educated man. A Psyhcologist in fact.
We went out 3 times . I noticed he was very secretive, etc. I even tried to google his name to verify anything he had told me… In the end I found out he had lied about his last name.
Six days after our last date , Oct. 8, 2007 I saw his photo in the paper. His trial had started for murdering his former fiancee.Two years ago he shot her 3 times in the back , rolled her up in a tarp, drove 60 miles away and burned her body. He was convicted yesterday Oct 12,2007 in Fort Worth, Texas and sentenced to life. His profile was still active on the dating site as of yesterday.

There are many sites that do background searches. Although no one site can be perfect…Are any more accurate than others???
