Avoiding Dangerous Drivers

When you are on the road with other drivers, you don’t have any control over what they might do, but you certainly have a choice when it comes to what you do behind the wheel. Being aware of your surroundings at all times is important, but learning to be a defensive driver is something that could potentially save your life if you are confronted by a drunk or drifting driver. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warns you should beware of drivers who appear to have trouble staying in their lanes, or maintaining speed. Additionally, if a driver seems to not be paying attention, or making poor judgment decisions on the road, you should steer clear.

NASCAR driver David Reutimann offers a couple of tips in case you are faced with this kind of situation, to help you avoid an accident.

Very good tip - getting the tag numbers would also be helpful to the law officers…I lost my wife and 9 month old to a drunk driver in 1968

Is it just me or does it seem that people try to multi -task when they are driving?! Women doing their makeup, people digging for stuff in the back seat, SUV drivers who can’t see over their own dashboard, and then men who get so mad that you got in front of them they have to speed up just to get back in front of you, it’s crazy. I even saw a woman driving over the Bay Bridge while reading a book and yes she was driving. I have had people flip me off at their own stupidity….So I have learned to drive deffencively. Beleive it or not but video games help with your reaction time in response to things. My own family has seen how I have avoided stupid people. Also take pictures of road ragers it might be evidence. Always be aware and not just in front there are a lot of rear collitions too. Above all put your seatbelt on and be careful. Your life is in the balance everytime you get behind the wheel.

People who are behind the wheel and do other things that distract them while they’re driving are 10 times more likely to get into accidents than people that don’t do things that distract them while they’re driving because those people don’t pay attention to the road and half of the time they don’t wear their seatbealts so that’s why people should be very cautious of what they’re doing while they’re behind the wheel.
