Motorcycle Safety: Be Seen

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a motorcyclist may be 35 times more likely than a passenger in a car to die in a traffic crash. And often, it’s because a driver did not see the motorcycle.

May is Motorcycle Safety Month, and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) wants to remind you always make sure you stay in plain view of other drivers. Taking a few simple precautions could help make sure you stay on top of your bike:

  • Always keep your headlights on.
  • Always signal your intent to turn or change lanes.
  • Always wear the proper clothing and safety gear.

The MSF has created the SEE systeman easy to remember checklist to keep in mind every time you get on your bike. SEARCH, EVALUATE, EXECUTE.

For more information on how you can stay safe on your motorcycle, check out the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s website. Also, check out the NHTSA’s site for even more motorcycle safety tips.

Dear AMW, I have been a fan for many, many years and what you and Mr. Walsh is doing is wonderful and the criminals shouldnt sleep well at night knowing that you are always on the job. I love the show and you may hear that all the time but the episode where the guy killed the baby in the car was especially hurting. I have kids and an 8 month old baby girl and i cryed the whole time. Please catch the low like idiots and hope the same fate that the baby and his father endured that it is worse for them. I love all of you and am proud that i live in a country that have people like Mr. Walsh and his family at AMW. Thanks soooooo much and all of you are in my Prayers.
