Slow Down, Move Over

Nascar driver David Ragan has offered some driving tips to drivers on the AMW Safety Center before. This time, he’s teamed up with AAA to offer some more road safety tips. When you see an emergency vehicle behind you, move out of their way as soon as it’s safe and allow them to get through. An ambulance may be responding to a life threatening situation, police pursing dangerous criminals, or fire fighters heading towards a towering blaze.

Likewise, if you notice emergency vehicles pulled over on the side of the highway, Slow Down, Move Over, and give the responder room to take care of the situation. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), almost 400 responders were killed in struck-by accidents in 2005. Most states currently have laws in place, but the Slow Down, Move Over campaign aims to raise awareness and help to make it safer for responders working in every state. Check out the AAA site for some more info about their campaign.
